How to Choose a Plumbing Marketing Agency in 2026

Summary: A good plumbing marketing agency is judged on booked jobs, not clicks or "leads". Before you sign, ask which jobs they'd advertise first, where the ads send people, how every call is tracked, what a booked job should cost you and how you can leave. Across the accounts Opus Group runs, leads have averaged $63, and the number that decides whether an agency is worth it is cost per booked job: cost per lead divided by your close rate.

Most plumbers who hire an agency have been burned at least once. Usually not by a scam, just by paying for activity that never turned into work on the schedule. Here's what a plumbing marketing company should actually do for you, the questions that separate the good ones from the rest, and what a real account looks like.

What a plumbing marketing agency should actually do

Strip away the jargon and the job is short:

  1. Pick the work worth paying for. Water heater installs, repipes, sewer lines and emergency calls pay very differently from a dripping tap. A good agency starts with your best jobs, not with everything you do.
  2. Run Google Ads and Local Services Ads on those jobs. Search ads let you choose the searches, the ad and the page for each job. Local Services Ads put your reviews and the Google Verified badge at the top of the page.
  3. Build a page for each job. Someone searching "water heater replacement near me" should land on a page about water heater replacement in your town, with your number at the top, not on your homepage.
  4. Track every call and form back to the search that caused it. If nobody can tell you which searches produced booked jobs, nobody can move the budget to them.
  5. Check it every week. Read what people actually searched, block the junk and move money towards the jobs that book.
  6. Report in booked jobs. Spend, calls and forms, booked jobs and what each booked job cost. Impressions and click-through rate are fine for the agency, but they don't pay your bills.

If an agency can't explain how it does each of those, it's selling you a part of the job and calling it the whole thing.

The number to judge any agency on

Cost per booked job = cost per lead ÷ close rate.

Across the accounts Opus Group runs, leads have averaged $63 over the last twelve months, and close rates are best measured from your own job records. Example numbers to swap for yours: $50 leads that book at 35% cost about $143 in ads per booked job. On a $2,400 water heater replacement, that's a small slice of the job.

Ask every agency you talk to how they'll measure that number, and how often you'll see it. For the full monthly bill, including fees and the page work, see what plumber marketing costs in 2026.

What a real plumbing account looks like

Here is one of the plumbing companies we run ads for. Between August 31 and September 27, 2026 it spent $14.1K on Google Ads and got 237 calls and forms, nearly all water heater replacements, repipes and sewer jobs. That's about $60 an enquiry at a $6.00 average click, and around $300K of work came out of it.

One month of a plumbing client's Google Ads: $14.1K spent, 237 conversions, a $6.00 average click and 25.8K impressions
One month of one plumbing account, straight from Google Ads.

Nothing clever happened in that account. Each ad lands on a page for that single job, every call is tracked, the search terms get read every week and the phone gets answered. The full setup is in our Google Ads guide for plumbers.

Questions to ask before you sign

  • Which jobs would you advertise first, and why? You want an answer about your margins and your area, not a package.
  • Where will my ads send people? Ask to see a page they've built for a single job.
  • What counts as a lead? A real phone call of a minimum length and a submitted form should count. Page views and button clicks shouldn't.
  • What should a booked job cost me, and how will we know? If they can't talk about cost per booked job, they're selling clicks.
  • Do you work with other plumbers in my area? If they do, they may be bidding against themselves for the same customers.
  • Are the leads exclusive to me? Shared leads from marketplaces are a different product, and they close at a different rate.
  • What will I see each week? Spend, calls and forms, booked jobs, the searches they blocked and what they changed.
  • What's the contract, and how do I leave? Month to month with a notice period is normal. A year with an exit fee is a red flag.

Red flags

  • Long contracts with exit fees. A good agency keeps you because it books you work.
  • Guaranteed rankings or a guaranteed number of leads. Nobody controls Google's results or your phone.
  • Reports full of impressions and clicks, with no booked jobs.
  • Every ad pointing at your homepage.
  • Shared leads sold as if they were yours alone.
  • Ad spend and fees blended into one number. You should see what Google charged and what the agency charged as separate lines.

Doing it yourself instead

You can run this yourself if you have a few hours a week and someone who answers the phone. Start with one job, one campaign and one page, get that booking, then add the next. Our Google Ads guide for plumbers covers the setup, and the free guide, How a local service business can spend $1,000 and make $60,000 in a month, walks through Local Services Ads. Its example assumes $30 a call and a $3,000 job; the $60,000 is worked math, not a promise.

How we work

We're a plumbing marketing agency that runs Google Ads and Local Services Ads, builds a page for each job you want more of, and tracks every call. We work month to month with 30 days' notice, and the weekly report shows what each booked job cost.

FAQ

How much does a plumbing marketing agency cost?

You pay two things: the ad spend, which goes to Google, and the agency's fee. Ask for them as separate lines. Then judge the total on cost per booked job; across the accounts Opus Group runs, leads have averaged $63 over the last twelve months.

Is it better to hire a plumbing marketing company or run ads myself?

If you have the time each week and someone answering the phone, you can run it yourself. An agency is worth it when it books more work per dollar than you would, and you should be able to see that in booked jobs, not clicks.

How long does a plumbing marketing agency take to get results?

Google says most search ads are reviewed within one business day, so search ads can start quickly. Local Services Ads verification takes three to four weeks on average, according to Google. Give a new campaign enough data, around 30 conversions, before judging it.

Should a plumbing marketing agency work with my competitors?

Many do. Ask any agency directly whether it runs ads for other companies in your area, and get the answer in writing.

What should a plumbing marketing report show?

Spend, calls and forms, booked jobs, cost per booked job, the searches that were blocked and what changed that week.
