Local Services Ads Not Getting Leads? Causes and Fixes (2026)

Summary: If your Local Services Ads aren't getting leads, first confirm the ad is running: Google's own checklist covers a paused or unscheduled ad, account or billing issues, and a used-up budget. If it's live, check your hours, budget and bid, verification, service areas and job types, ranking signals like missed calls, messages and bookings, category availability, and the move into Google Ads. Change one thing at a time and give it about two weeks.

Work down this list in order, quickest checks first. Not live yet? Start with how to set up Google Local Services Ads.

First, check the ad is running at all

Searching for your own business won't settle it. Google says your ad won't show on every search, and a paused ad may still leave a free version of your listing visible. Instead, rule out the three reasons on Google's "Why aren't my Local Services Ads running?" page:

  1. An inactive account. The ad is paused, disapproved, outside its schedule or limited by location targeting.
  2. Account or billing issues. Ads won't run until these are resolved. In Google Ads, check the bell icon near the top of the screen for alerts. A suspended Google Ads account suspends your Local Services Ads too.
  3. No budget left. At your monthly maximum, the ad stops for the rest of the month unless you raise the budget.

1. The ad is paused, or your hours hide it

How to spot it: leads stop completely, or never come in the evening or at weekends.

What to do: Make sure the ad is on (Enabled, in Google Ads). On "Only during my business hours", it runs only in your listed hours, and Google says that outside business hours, or when you're marked as not taking customers, it won't show in searches with a badge. In Google Ads, business hours come from your Google Business Profile, so fix them there. Extend hours only as far as someone will answer, since Google starts charging for some missed calls in business hours on October 1, 2026.

2. Your budget or bid is too low for your area

How to spot it: the ad is live, but leads trickle in. What a lead costs depends on your location, the job type, the lead type and your bidding mode.

What to do:

  • Switch to Maximize leads. Google recommends it, and says providers with equivalent quality and budgets who use it typically get more leads than those who don't. On Max per lead or Target cost per lead, your bid also affects how many leads you could get in a week.
  • Fund about 10 leads a week or more. That's the level Google suggests on Maximize leads.
  • Check the math. Our free guide, How a local service business can spend $1,000 and make $60,000 in a month, walks through how lead cost, booking rate and job value multiply together. Treat its $60,000 as worked math, not a forecast.

3. Verification or profile problems

How to spot it: checks are still pending, Google wants more information, or leads fell right after you edited your Business Profile.

What to do:

  • Finish verification. Pre-badge ads, which some businesses run during checks, are placed below fully verified providers.
  • Answer follow-up requests. Google warns that not completing a requested review can cost you the badge, pause your ads or suspend the account.
  • Repair the Business Profile. It must stay public and verified. See our guide to a Business Profile that isn't showing up.
  • Plan big edits. Once you're in Google Ads, significant changes to your Business Profile's name, storefront address or primary category trigger a verification review, and the campaign may pause while it runs, typically 24 to 48 hours.
  • Count your reviews. Google says some business types may need 5 to show.

4. Your service areas or job types are too narrow

How to spot it: the ad is on and budget goes unspent, while your settings cover a few ZIP codes or a handful of jobs.

What to do: Google warns that overly restrictive settings may keep ads from showing. It advises selecting every job type you perform and setting service areas broadly, such as a whole county rather than specific postal codes. It also notes that in some cases your ad only shows for general category searches if you offer your category's common services. If broad search is off, turn it back on, since Google says disabling it may cut leads. Widen only to work you'll take, because leads for jobs or places you don't cover can't be credited. See our job types guide.

5. Your ranking signals are weak

How to spot it: settings and budget look right, but your lead list shows unreturned missed calls, slow message replies, few reviews or no photos.

What to do:

  • Answer, or call straight back. Unanswered calls may count against your responsiveness, Google says.
  • Reply to messages fast. Average response time is a profile quality factor, and Google may show yours on the ad.
  • Keep reviews coming. Your rating and review count both feed profile quality.
  • Add real photos. Google counts high-quality images toward profile quality.

Every factor is explained in how Google ranks Local Services Ads.

6. Messages and bookings are off

How to spot it: every lead in your list is a phone call.

What to do: Turn on message leads if someone can reply quickly. Google says offering messages and bookings as well as calls can boost your chances of a lead, particularly at night and on weekends, and a message lead usually costs less than a call. If your Business Profile already takes bookings through one of Google's scheduling partners, Google says that link shows on your ads automatically once you're verified and the profile is linked. Bookings are billed as leads, so offer only slots you can fill.

7. Your category isn't offered in your area

How to spot it: Google's eligibility check won't offer your business where you work.

What to do: Local Services Ads cover a set list of service categories, and some on Google's US list are limited to California and Florida. Check each area you serve, and use other channels where the ads aren't offered.

8. The move into Google Ads, or too many changes

How to spot it: leads dipped right after the move, or after a round of budget, bid or job type changes. Google emails account administrators 14 days before the move, and Change history in Google Ads logs who changed what.

What to do:

  • Find the leads. They're under Goals > Conversions > Leads, and Google says past lead history transfers.
  • Check the budget. Your old weekly amount divided by 7 is the new daily average, with monthly spend capped at 30.4 times that.
  • Check the target. Trade-level targets are gone, replaced by a single campaign-level target CPA. If trades need different bids, Google suggests separate campaigns.
  • Wait before judging. Google tells migrated advertisers to allow up to two weeks for performance to return to stable levels. Change one thing at a time.

FAQ

Why is my Local Services Ad not showing?

Check it's on and scheduled, your hours show you open, billing is clear and budget remains. Then check verification and targeting.

Why did my leads stop partway through the month?

You may have hit your monthly maximum. Google says the ad then stops appearing for the rest of the month unless you raise the budget.

Does turning off broad search reduce leads?

It can. Google says disabling broad search may result in a decrease in leads, as the ad stops serving on category searches such as "plumber near me".

How long should I wait after changing settings?

About two weeks. That's the settling-in time Google gives on its bidding help page.
